There’s a new cream that the consultant has given me to help reduce inflammation and pain in the joints…
My back and my knees are the two places that we apply the cream twice a day. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before it’s called Capsaicin.
Capsaicin is taken from chilli peppers. It works mainly by reducing Substance P, a pain transmitter in your nerves. Results from RCTs assessing its role in treating osteoarthritis suggest that it can be effective in reducing pain and tenderness in affected joints, and it has no major safety problems.
How to apply
We decided that MrH would apply it wearing gloves because I didn’t want him to get it in his eyes… I mean I don’t know about you but I’ve prepared chilli’s in the past, washed my hands, washed my hands again and several hours later I’ve taken my contacts out (back when I wore contacts) and oh my the pain!!!!
Important Lessons Learned
Today we went out for a ride on the motorbikes. As the heat from the engine started to warm my knees the capsaicin began to burn. And, I mean BURN
I’m now sat with cold cloths on my knees….
What have we learned? Not to put cream on my knees before we go out on the motorcycles…
